The New England Patriots have been one of the most talked-about teams leading up to the 2025 NFL season, despite having a poor record in 2024.
They’ve made a lot of acquisitions over the past several months, trying to get better and improve their outlook.
Fans are encouraged about the offense heading into Drake Maye’s second season, as the offensive line has gotten better, and the team has invested in more pieces around him.
There is a lot to be excited about with their defense as well, a unit that has been historically strong over the past two decades.
While things are mostly positive with the Patriots, there is talk that they could move on from a veteran defender with only a few weeks to go until the season starts.
B/R Gridiron highlighted Jordan Schultz’s report that the team has opened conversations about trading safety Kyle Dugger.

At this time, it’s unclear if he has any suitors and what the overall market is for him, but this is certainly a situation to monitor over the next several weeks.
Dugger was a second-round pick for the Patriots in 2020, a player who’s been an integral part of their defense during the past five seasons.
However, if the Patriots want to go a different direction at the safety position, especially if they can get out of most of his contract, it could be in their best interest to move on and cut their losses.
With the amount of struggles this team has experienced in recent history, making any changes could result in greater success, but only time will tell how it all plays out.
