The New York Jets conducted a massive roster overhaul on Tuesday.
The organization shipped out two of its most prominent defensive stars in a pair of blockbuster deals that reshaped the franchise’s immediate future.
The moves sent shockwaves through the league and raised questions about the direction head coach Aaron Glenn plans to take.

“All I know is that Aaron Glenn took a nice, long, half a season look at these guys and said, ‘I’d rather coach someone new.’ The kind of compensation they got is really quite extraordinary. And they got rid of contracts…. I think they came to the conclusion that we’re not winning, we’re not gonna win as we are, and we don’t have enough ways to inject young talent into this thing. So, Aaron is gonna get a chance to do it his way,” Kirwan said.

The Jets sent cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, along with wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.
Shortly after, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and lineman Mazi Smith.
The haul left New York holding two first-round and two second-round selections in 2026, plus three first-rounders in 2027.
General manager Darren Mougey orchestrated the deals with clear support from Glenn and owner Woody Johnson.
The strategy centers on accumulating draft capital to address the franchise’s most critical need at quarterback.
New York has not had a Pro Bowl passer since Brett Favre in 2008, and Justin Fields currently ranks near the bottom in most major statistical categories while leading the league’s worst passing attack.
