Week 7 marks the point where MVP conversations begin to carry real weight.

The early weeks often deceive, with players posting inflated numbers before defenses adjust, and the grind exposes weaknesses.

But the truly elite performers maintain their rhythm through adversity, proving their value extends beyond individual statistics.

Their consistency separates them from those who fade when circumstances shift.

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb recently shared his top five MVP candidates during an appearance on the Up & Adams show.

His list included Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Jonathan Taylor, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

“Dak has no defense whatsoever. CeeDee has been hurt. It’s just pretty much him. Baker Mayfield has battled injury, but at least he has his No. 1 receiver. I love what he’s doing. Sam Darnold needs some love. Now, he’s come to Seattle and changed that organization around. We’ve seen Jaxon Smith-Njigba and what he has been able to do, getting downfield,” McNabb said.

Prescott has been one of the few constants during a turbulent season for the Dallas Cowboys.

No quarterback in the league has faced more adversity, yet he continues to thrive despite CeeDee Lamb’s injury and an offensive line decimated by absences.

The Cowboys offense hasn’t slowed down, currently leading the NFL in yards per game and ranking third in scoring.

Mayfield continues to elevate Tampa Bay’s performance, emerging as one of the league’s most efficient quarterbacks.

He’s thrown for over 1,500 yards with 12 touchdowns against a single interception while guiding a roster that holds the NFC’s best record.

He’s accomplished this without his top wideouts fully healthy and behind an average run game.

Darnold’s resurgence in Seattle mirrors his strong finish in Minnesota, throwing for 1,541 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions while steering the Seahawks to a 4-2 record and a share of first place.

Taylor remains the league’s most dominant running back, while Smith-Njigba has emerged as a sensational playmaker for Seattle.
