For years, the Los Angeles Chargers have flirted with contention.
Unfortunately, they have failed to take the next step and finish the job.
That’s despite the franchise having one of the best quarterbacks of his generation for almost two decades.
Nevertheless, even though Philip Rivers was often on the wrong side of playoff results, he still wants to see his successor do better.
The Chargers legend admitted to being a huge fan of Justin Herbert, and he wishes him nothing but the best.
“I was there 16 years. Hopefully Herbert can go another 16. Like the [Green Bay] Packers, doing it right. Not like [the Cleveland] Browns with 30 starters. They nailed that pick. I’m pulling for him,” Rivers said, via MLFootball.

Rivers had the tough luck to play in the same era as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
He posted solid numbers and often was a top-five passer, but that did little to help his case when it mattered the most.
Now, the Chargers have a different type of quarterback, one who’s more athletic and dynamic.
Herbert has had some tough breaks in the early stretches of his career, and some believe it’s time he shows why he was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by not only looking great on the field but actually leading the Chargers to big wins.
He’s left something to be desired when a game or the season has been on the line, and this season will be crucial to making or breaking his reputation.
The Chargers have put together a stacked team on both sides of the ball, and they have a great coaching situation as well.
They also have Rivers’ stamp of approval and support.
