The New York Jets are poised to look a lot different in 2025 than they did in 2024.
Having a new head coach, Aaron Glenn, will certainly change things up on both sides of the ball, as will their new quarterback situation.
At this point in the offseason, Justin Fields will likely be the Week 1 starter, giving this team a different mobility-wise upside than they had with Aaron Rodgers.
While some changes are coming within the organization, the team could be gearing up to make two moves to help lock up some of their best young talent.
As Ian Rapoport noted in a video he shared on X, the Jets have been in talks about contract extensions with Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner.
“It certainly appears that [it’s a matter of] when Sauce Gardner signs his new deal. Garrett Wilson also in line for an extension. Wouldn’t actually be surprised if the Jets do them in similar timing. They’re both faces of this organization,” Rapoport said.

Rapoport noted that these two players have demonstrated that they’re the faces of the franchise, and it might be in the Jets’ best interest to lock them down sooner rather than later.
In today’s contract climate, it’s better to be proactive than reactive, especially since the dollar amounts seem to climb every offseason.
Every star player, regardless of position, seemingly wants to be the highest-paid player, not only in the league but in NFL history.
It’s happened with several quarterbacks, wide receivers, and defensive backs in recent seasons, a trend that is not slowing down.
Their costs might be elevated, but if they keep playing as well as they have to this point in their young careers, extending Wilson and Gardner now could be viewed as a bargain in the future.
