Baker Mayfield’s career has been something of a roller coaster.
He won the Heisman Trophy in 2017, a big reason he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Mayfield was said to be a catalyst for turning the Cleveland Browns’ organization around, but for a myriad of reasons, things didn’t go according to plan.
Some believed Mayfield was a bust, while others believed he wasn’t in the right system and didn’t have the right support to succeed.
It seems like the second camp was correct, as Mayfield is thriving with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They took a chance on him, and it paid off, as he looks to be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
FS1 analyst Nick Wright talked about the discourse surrounding Mayfield in a recent segment of “First Things First,” highlighting that he believes Mayfield is a top-10 QB.
“When Baker wasn’t great, he was over-discussed. And now that he’s really good, I think he’s under-discussed. I think he’s a top-10 QB,” Wright said.

In Wright’s mind, Mayfield has gone from overrated to underrated, as he has put his money where his mouth is, so to speak.
The Buccaneers are viewed as the favorites in the NFC South, and until things get better across the board in this division, that could be the case for many years.
Mayfield is a big reason for that, and he’s certainly found his footing.
It just took him longer than people expected, but now that he’s on his fourth NFL team, he’s more than ready to keep proving the doubters wrong in every game.
