Just about everyone agrees that Boise State University’s Ashton Jeanty is the best running back who will be available in this year’s NFL draft.
He led everyone in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) play with 2,601 rushing yards and scored 29 rushing touchdowns, and he won the Maxwell Award and Doak Walker Award while finishing as the runner-up in the balloting for the Heisman Trophy.
Some feel Jeanty could go very high in the first round of the draft, and Fox Sports NFL draft analyst Rob Rang even named Pro Football Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson as the best comparison for Jeanty.

Tomlinson was one of the greatest and most explosive running backs in NFL history, and he is most remembered as the lynchpin of the then-San Diego Chargers when they were very competitive in the mid-to-late 2000s.
His 2006 season was one of the greatest in the history of the NFL regardless of position — that was when he notched 1,815 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns, which made him one of the few non-quarterbacks in the modern era to win the league MVP award.
Like Tomlinson, who was 5-foot-10, Jeanty is considered undersized at 5-foot-9, but he has a strong and dense frame at 215 pounds, as well as the ability to avoid tackles and dance around defenders.
There are legitimate questions about his size and explosiveness, but perhaps he will make, at the very least, a nice starting RB for the team that ends up selecting him in April’s draft.
