The Detroit Lions entered the divisional round of the playoffs as heavy favorites over the Washington Commanders.
Many believed they’d win that game by at least a touchdown, seeing how dominant the Lions were during the regular season.
The Lions also have a lot of veterans on their roster, and considering that the Commanders are led by rookie Jayden Daniels, fans felt like they had nothing to worry about.
For whatever reason, the Commanders had the Lions’ number in the second half, making Jared Goff’s life difficult on the defensive side of the ball, and the offense was in harmony all day.
Lions players weren’t expecting to go home this early, and that was made especially clear by Amon Ra St. Brown, who talked about the loss in a recent episode of his podcast.
“This one was more shocking. Last year feels like it hurt a little more,” St. Brown said.

St. Brown indicated that their loss in the NFC Championship in 2023 was more hurtful, especially since they were within reach of the Super Bowl.
This year’s loss could be harder to swallow for him and his teammates, as the Commanders weren’t supposed to be a threat to them.
It will be interesting to see how the Lions respond in the offseason, and what changes they’ll make over the next several months to best compete in 2025.
Dan Campbell has a fighting spirit and never wants to give up, and with the team hopefully being healthier next year, there’s no telling what their future holds.
