The Dallas Cowboys finished last season on a low note.
Mike McCarthy’s team had been utterly dominant at home.
Then, the youngest team in the NFL took them down on their own turf, ending a once-promising season.
Back then, some people had serious doubts about whether McCarthy was the right man for the job, which is why it was a league-wide surprise when Jerry Jones didn’t fire him after that debacle.
McCarthy reportedly entered this season on the hot seat, and judging by his team’s performance this year, it would be hard to justify him keeping his job.
Nevertheless, Micah Parsons stood by his head coach when asked about that situation.
In a recent interview, the controversial pass-rusher blamed injuries, not coaching, for his team’s shortcomings:
“I would like a fair shot with everyone back – players, coaches – because the injuries kind of struck of what this season could really be,” Parsons said in an interview with ESPN.
Parsons does have a valid point, as injuries have set the team back over and over.
Even he had to miss time.
Nonetheless, that wasn’t the only issue, not by a mile.
Jerry Jones vowed to go all-in in the offseason, yet the Cowboys barely made any moves.
They had some glaring issues last season, and they didn’t even try to address them in the NFL Draft or free agency.
The roster was flawed from the beginning, and their decision to pay Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and soon Parsons will only hamper their ability to put together a competitive team for years to come.
Granted, McCarthy isn’t to blame for everything that has gone wrong for the Cowboys, but he didn’t do much to alleviate those issues either.
